New features at the Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary in the Year of the Rabbit 2023

After 3 years of being affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the Hung Kings’ death anniversary in the year of the Rabbit was organized by Phu Tho province in association with the Fatherland Culture - Tourism Week 2023 with many new points, showing the unique cultural identity of the land of the ancestors; at the same time, creating conditions for localities and people across the country to directly organize practical activities in remembrance of the roots and commemoration of the merits of the ancestors.

In the national cultural heritage, Hung Kings’ Temple and Hung King"s death anniversary are symbols of patriotism and great unity of the whole country. Hung Kings worshiping belief has become the cultural identity and traditional morality of our Vietnamese people. No matter what they do, wherever they go, every Vietnamese person always turns to their roots and ancestors with their whole heart of respect and gratitude.

In 2023, the Hung Kings“Death Anniversary and the Fatherland Culture and Tourism Week will be held by Phu Tho province from April 20 to 29, 2023 (or March 1 to 10 in the year of the Rabbit) in Viet Tri City, Hung Kings” Temple Historic Site, and districts and towns in the province.

The ceremony part was directed by the province to be held in a dignified, solemn and community-oriented way, focusing on the main activities: the death anniversary of the National Great Father Lac Long Quan and incense offering to commemorate National Great Mother Au Co; Hung Kings“death anniversary and flower offering at the bas-relief “Uncle Ho talking to officers and soldiers of the Pioneer Battalion”; Incense offering at the relics worshiping Hung Kings, famous characters and famous generals from the Hung Kings” period in the province. Incense offering in memory of the Hung Kings of districts, cities and towns in the province.

Besides the traditional ceremonies, this year“s festival activities also have many new points, closely linked with tourism, forming a series of Culture - Tourism Week activities, expressing the unique cultural identity of the Fatherland. Highlights are the opening program of”Hung Kings“Temple Festival and the Fatherland Culture and Tourism Week 2023“and” UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages Week“to be held at 8pm on April 21, 2023 at Hung Vuong Square; International Conference”Forum of Tourism, Culture, Heritage and Sustainable Development in Vietnam"; Boating contest and stand-up paddleboard show on Van Lang Park lake; Hung Vuong Cup Football Tournament; volleyball tournament of strong teams from all over the country competing for Hung Vuong Cup; Northwest Tourism Fair 2023; Northeast - Phu Tho Trade and Exhibition Fair 2023; Fatherland Cuisine Culture Festival; Cultural Camp and Mass Art Festival in support of Hung Kings” Death Anniversary.

In addition to the annual cultural, sports and tourism activities, this year also takes place other special activities, harmoniously combining modern and traditional folklore activities with wide spread effects, such as: Exhibition “Cultural heritage, tourism in the capital regions of Vietnam”; Vietnamese Children“s Ao Dai Festival”Towards the Roots“; Vietnamese national ao dai show; Open bicycle racing tournament of Viet Tri clubs; organizing a famtrip group”Travel Journey to discover the Midland Colors“… Thereby, helping visitors experience the ritual practice of Hung Vuong”s worshipping belief and typical tourism products associated with the culture of the Fatherland.

In particular, this year, Phu Tho province continues to mobilize and encourage families in the province to prepare a dignified and warm meal tray to commemorate and appreciate the merits of the national ancestors on the 10th day of the third lunar month.

Phu Tho province"s policy in organizing the Hung Kings’ death anniversary in association with the Fatherland Culture and Tourism Week 2023 is to continue promoting the socialization of activities, creating favorable conditions for localities and people to directly organize practical activities in memory of the roots and pay tribute to the merits of the ancestors.
