On April 17, in Ha Long city, the Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hanh, and Vice Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien co-chaired a meeting on preparation for the opening of new air route connecting Quang Ninh and Can Tho and fostering tourism cooperation between the two provinces.
Van Don International Airport
Can Tho is the centre of the Mekong Delta, the gateway to the rich Southwest region with many typical cultural and economic features, while Quang Ninh is also the leading development province in the Northeast economic region and having the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed that the connections between the two airports, along with the upcoming waterway route between Can Tho and Van Ninh ports, will promote the expansion of the logistics system.
A direct route connecting Can Tho city’s Tra Noc and Quang Ninh province’s Van Don will officially serve passengers on April 25, aiming to promote trade, economy and tourism between two localities as well as two key economic regions.
The flight that takes two hours and 20 minutes will have a frequency of three times per week.
It is scheduled to depart from Can Tho City at 6 a.m. and land at Van Don International Airport at 8:20 a.m. In the reverse direction, the flights will take off from Van Don International Airport at 8:55 a.m. and arrive in Can Tho City at 11:10 a.m.
Currently, Can Tho and Van Don international airports are classified as 4E level airports with a designed capacity of three million passengers annually. Till now, the operation of these two airports is both under 50% of their designed capacities; thus, they still have room to open more domestic and international flights.
Van Don International Airport has so far launched two domestic flights to connect Quang Ninh and HCMC; and Quang Ninh and Can Tho provinces.
