Seminar on climate change in Quy Nhon city -Garbage classification started

Institute for Strategy and Policy on Science and Technology, Institute of Meteorology, Hydrography and Environment, and Rockefeller Fund’s consultants cooperated to hold the seminar.

The seminar aims to help researchers and consultants know more about effects of the climate change, sharing experiences on dealing with the climate change in Quy Nhon city.

 

Their activities target at the project of building the capacity for dealing with the climate change in Vietnam’s cities. Participants went to survey in some communes in Quy Nhon city on the same day. Together with Da Nang and Can Tho, Quy Nhon city was selected to join the project.

 

Quy Nhon Urban Environment Co., Ltd and Binh Dinh Department of Environment and Natural Resources implemented the model of garbage classification in Quy Nhon city.

 

The project worth VND 255.955 million will be carried out in six months. The rubbish will be classified into two main categories, including organic garbage and inorganic garbage.

 

Nearly 600 households in Thi Nai ward will participate in the trial run for the new model. They have been trained in the classification of organic, inorganic garbage, as well as the significance of the project since October, 2008.

 

The garbage classification aims to raise the community’s awareness about environmental sanitation, natural resources saving, and environmental pollution reduction.
