Sa Dec Town in Dong Thap Province has beautiful flower gardens. Moreover, it is where French writer Marguerite Duras wrote her famous novel 'The Lover'. The novel tells a true story about the author's memories of living in Sa Dec Town. In particular, the story describes the day she met her first lover, Huynh Thuy Le on a ferry-boat along the Mekong River connecting Sa Dec and Vinh Long. A magnificent love story was born on that day. The house of Huynh Le is now a popular tourist destination since its opening in 2007. It has been recently recognized as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
To further its tourism development, Dong Thap has created an overall tourism plan that focuses on ecotourism, cultural and historical tourism, and water-based tourism which would connect its tourist packages with the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta tourist packages. The province plans to work with HCM City, the southeastern region and other Mekong Delta countries, including Cambodia in tourism development. Dong Thap has invested in tourism development, human resource training as well as preserved traditional villages and special areas such as Dong Thap Muoi and Long Xuyen quadrangular as well as encouraged economic elements to invest in this sector. Dong Thap aims to be ranked highly among provinces to receive high tourism revenue and a renowned national and international tourist destination.
