Recently, thousands of blobs of oil have appeared mysteriously on My Khe beach in Da Nang City. The coagulated oil blobs were mixed with seaweed and have been drifting ashore for a few days.
Local authorities said they don’t know where the oil came from but assumed it could have originated from a passing ships and had been blown inshore, by the prevalling northeasterly winds. The oil blobs have been spotted along a 1 km stretch beach.
My Khe is a famous beach and a pride of Da Nang city. Being aware of the impact of this oil spilling incident that would negatively affect regional tourism environment and My Khe’s image, local state has surged the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment and an environmental company to clean up the mess.
