In 23 and 24 June, "Quang Nam’s Investment Forum towards green growth" has taken place in the framework of the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival in Hoi An with the participation of many domestic and international economists and investors.
Mr. Le Phuoc Thanh, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee said that The goal-driven green growth towards low carbon economies becomes the main trend in sustainable development. Quang Nam has seen this as both an opportunity and challenging problem at present.
At the forum, Dr. Myung-Kyoon Lee, Director of Department of Green Growth Planning and Implementation (Global Green Growth Institute - GGGI) said that, we must first change our thinking towards green growth development and it is also the best way to towards sustainable development. He also emphasized that “green lifestyle" with changes in thinking, perception of people, from strategic planners to the whole community is the core of the strategic goals.
According to Dr. Tran Du Lich, whether green growth can be done or not depends on strategies and macroeconomic policies of the government. A good tax policy (for example, maximum reduction of production projects which develop towards sustainable development and raising taxes on the projects which cause impacts on the environment and social security), strategic planning, control procedures and evaluation criteria must be built by the governement.
