To mark World Environment Day, Airbus, the National Geographic Society and the UNEP Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on June 5 launched a world-wide biodiversity media campaign, “See the Bigger Picture.”
The campaign aims to stimulate and raise awareness of biodiversity among young people, families and educators worldwide. The campaign comes in the run-up to the International Year of Biodiversity in 2010.
“See the Bigger Picture” wants children and young people to illustrate the diversity of nature and to consider their role in conserving it via a worldwide photo competition.
The competition encourages young people to explore the variety of nature and take a picture of what biodiversity means to them.
The five best entrants will win a trip to Washington, D.C., amongst other places, including National Geographic’s headquarters.
The campaign will feature in the various language editions of National Geographic’s various publications.
Being one of the world’s largest non-profit scientific and educational organizations in the world, the campaign has a potential reach to over 260 million people in more than 190 countries.
The photography contest is open to children aged between 6-16 years old. It runs until September 8. Parents or legal guardians of contestants must upload the photos at www.seethebiggerpicture.org.
