In September and October, or so called tide-water season in the Mekong Delta, linh fish, a specialty of the delta, make their annual appearance on the rivers where they drift lazily and wait to be caught.
BenThanh Tourist has launched a two-day-and-one-night tour called ‘Enjoying specialty of tide-water season’, taking tourists to famous attractions in the Delta to enjoy dishes made from linh fish such as linh fish pancakes, grilled linh fish or linh fish soup mixed with water-lily, banana and bitter vegetables.
The first stop of the tour is Long Xuyen Province to shop at the Tinh Bien tax-free market for souvenirs and indigenous specialties for family and friends. The trip moves on to Cam (Forbidden) Mountain in An Giang Province where tourists are challenged to conquer the summit, often called the roof of the Mekong Delta at 500 meters above sea level. Here, ancient towers, pagodas and temples, such as Van Linh Pagoda, Great Buddha Pagoda, 33.6-meter-high Mitreya (Buddha) Statue and Ba Chua Xu Temple, await tourists’ admiration. Each sanctuary is bathed in peace with a flower garden in front and endless eucalyptus forest behind.
After taking breakfast, the group goes to Chau Thanh District to see the site of a former revolutionary base called Lang Linh-Bay Thua, which now is an endless field. From here, tourists will use boats to pluck wild flowers from the river and spread nets to catch fish with local farmers.
BenThanh Tourist will also organize a boat race and fishing in the fields to give tourists a sense of the fun and the work in the lives of the locals.
