The Huyen Tran Temple Festival which aims to commemorate King Tran Nhan Tong and Princess Huyen Tran was held from February 8 to February 9 in the central city of Hue in Thua Thien Hue province.
The festival takes place annually at the Huyen Tran Cultural Centre in An Tay ward of Hue city on the ninth day of the first lunar month. This year a lion dance performance opens the occasion.
The function features a wide range of activities such as folk games, calligraphy, art performances, along with displays of traditional handicrafts.
Phan Thanh Hai, director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports delivers a speech to open the Huyen Tran Temple Festival.
Nguyen Van Phuong, chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee, beats a drum as a way of kicking off the festival.
Elderly members of the community hold an incense offering ceremony to worship Huyen Tran Princess.
Visitors don an Ao Dai, a traditional long dress, to attend the festival.
The Ao Dai fashion show is one of the highlights of the festival.
The occasions also features a special corner which puts the Non La, a palm-leaf conical hat, on display, with this serving as one of the traditional handicraft products of Hue.
Tourists can have sketches done at the event.
Visitors request calligraphic works in order to pray for luck, happiness, and prosperity ahead in the Year of the Tiger.
