3 herds of elephants seen in Vinh Cuu Relics and Nature Reserve

In late December 2009, local rangers have seen three groups of about eleven wild elephants roaming near the forest management station of Vinh Cuu Relics and Nature Reserve in Phu Ly Commune, Dong Nai Province and in the residential area in hamlet 7 of Ma Da commune in search of food. The herds of elephants including cows, bulls, youngsters and babies were seen from sunset until dawn of the next day, said local sources.

At 1am on December 29, the water level in the Red River was only 0.66m - a new low-level record. One month ago, the level was at 0.76m, which was said to be the lowest level in 107 years of city records.

HCM City pollution ‘alarming’

Pollution caused by dust, exhaust fumes and noise in HCM City has not declined and is reaching alarming levels, according to a recent survey on the city’s air quality. The report, released by the HCM City Environmental Protection Agency (HEPA) last month, showed that 89 per cent of examined air samples from six observation stations exceeded the acceptable maximum levels and were even bordering on the dangerous.
