Heavy rain causes flooding and traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City

Update: 27/05/2009
A two-hour long heavy rain on a large scale caused the flooding in Ho Chi Minh City on May 25. Some places in District 1 and District 3 were submerged 20 – 30 centimetres under water. The Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Nguyen Huu Canh roads in Binh Thanh district were submerged 40 centimeres under water, making thousands of cars and motorbikes come to a dead stop.

The reason for the flooding is that the rainy season in the southern region is beginning and then a flood-tide was happening while the city was renovating the urban area by digging out and filling in many places, so rain-water and waste water could have receded completely only after many hours.
